Finding a Qualified Massage Therapist

You can find a massage therapist through referral from another health practitioner, a friend, or even from the phone book. Some states, such as South Carolina, license massage therapists, ensuring a basic competence in massage techniques, anatomy and physiology, and knowledge of when massage is and is not appropriate. Many massage therapists are certified by schools or have special training which they will gradly explain. If you need help for a specific condition, always ask about applicable training and experience.

Massage does not replace the need for medical attention. Though it can supplement work with emotional issues, massage does not substitute for psychological counseling. Massage therapists do not diagnose medical problems or manipulate bones.
